Birth and history of Aikido
Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba.
Morihei Ueshiba learned various martial arts and also practiced spiritually.
Before the war, Morihei Ueshiba, who had a good reputation as a martial artist, established the Imperial Buddhist Foundation to spread his martial arts.
After the end of the war, the Emperor’s Association will become the “Aikikai Foundation”.
From this time on, Morihei Ueshiba’s martial arts came to be called Aikido, and Aiki was born.
Since then, Aiki has become widespread and is now spreading overseas.

Morihei Ueshiba studied ancient Japanese martial arts such as jujutsu and swordsmanship, encountered Takeda Sokaku’s Daito-ryu Aiki Jiu-jitsu, and was further influenced by Omoto’s idea of valuing peace.
The result of combining these is the reverse joint technique of Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu, which reverses the joints, and the dangerous technique of holding down with the legs and knees, and kicking is also possible. It is a banned general martial art “Aikido”.
Features of Aikido

Aikido School
Currently, there are various Aikido schools.
There are many schools established by Morihei Ueshiba’s direct pupils, but there are also other “Aikido” groups.
Aikido (Aikikai)
Aikido inherited by the direct descendants of Morihei Ueshiba.
Eighty to ninety percent of those who learn Aikido belong to this Aikido Honke school dojo.
Aikido is often referred to as Aikikai Aikido.
The second generation is the owner of “Kisshomaru Ueshiba”, the third generation is the current owner of “Moriteru Ueshiba”, and the headquarters dojo is located in Wakamatsu-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
Yoshinkan Aikido
Aikido opened by Gozo Shioda, a disciple of Morihei Ueshiba, who won the 1954 Japan General Martial Arts Tournament.
The headquarters dojo is located in Takadanobaba, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu, Aikido Renshinkai, Aikido Affinity Museum, etc. are of the same type, and were opened independently by the disciples of Gozo Shioda.
Aikido at Yoshinkan has been adopted for the arrest of the Metropolitan Police Department riot police because of its effectiveness, and the Aikido is a compulsory subject for female police officers of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Iwama Ryu Aikido
This is Aikido in the later years of Morihei Ueshiba, which was taken over by Morihiro Saito, the high-ranking younger brother of the founder Morihei Ueshiba.
There are Iwama-style dojos all over the country, but there is no organization that represents all of them.
Ki Aikido
The founder is Koichi Tohei, a high-ranking younger brother of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido.
The headquarters dojo is located in Ichikai-cho, Haga-gun, Tochigi Prefecture, and there are classrooms (dojos) nationwide.

The founder is Noriaki Inoue.
I’m Morihei Ueshiba’s nephew, but I’m not a disciple.
When Morihei Ueshiba was teaching “Aiki Martial Arts” in the Oomoto sect of Onisaburo Deguchi, he was teaching with him.
Ueshiba left under the exit and became independent, but Inoue remained in the Oomoto religion and taught Aiki martial arts widely to people other than those related to the Oomoto religion.
In 1946, the name was changed from “Aiki Martial Arts” to “Affinity Body Road”.
Later, it was called “Pro-English body way” for the general public other than Oomoto.
